Root of Rock Exhibit, Main Exhibit Hall (Level 0)

Join the Rock Hall’s Education team for the “Where the Ropes Fell: How Early Rock & Roll Broke Barriers” program.

How did rock & roll music help break down literal and figurative racial barriers in a time of legal segregation in the United States? This program invites participants to examine how cross-over artists like Ruth Brown found success on both the Black and white charts. As a result, teenagers of different races would dance together at concerts while enjoying the same music.

About Courtney Tiara

image of Courtney Tiara

At just 7 years old, Courtney Tiara was thrust onto the gospel music scene as the lead singer of a family group comprised of three sisters. From then on, her ministry expanded. Cultivated in her home church, she served as worship leader, pianist, and choir director for youth and adults. She became highly sought out as a guest singer dawning the platform at churches, colleges, conferences, festivals, and celebratory events all over. Known as the little girl with the big voice, she stunned audiences everywhere with her mature vocal style at such a young age. She continued to hone her craft in vocal and piano instrumentation, training classically and going on to teach and direct several choruses and choirs, while staying true to her gospel roots.

Courtney has toured throughout the United States both as a member of a traveling ministry team, and as a soloist. A versatile multi-talented powerhouse, she carries a fiery charisma that meets audiences where they are and takes them on a moving spiritual journey.

Courtney’s southern roots lend themselves to her signature unique flare. She boasts a sultry alto tone, leaning into her love of soul and quartet music to present a modern-neo spin on a timeless down-home style. Often referred to as a quiet storm and atmosphere shifter, Courtney Tiara continues to make a powerful impact with her ministry.

With a treasured old school vibe and a modern-day twist, Courtney’s classic style continues to make a mark in the music world. Her latest single, “I’m Tired” continues to move up on the charts.
